Black Day

We wrote before about White Day- Taylor gave me flowers. The 14th of every month seems to be some sort of couple's holiday in Korea (most likely just a marketing scheme that works). We actually celebrated the months of January-March with all the different holidays so we decided to keep it up in April.

You can read more about all the 14th holidays in Korea here: http://www.seouleats.com/2009/02/14th-is-special-day-in-korea.html

April 14th happens to be "Black Day." No, it is not a holiday for African-Americans (sorry Mesha), but one of the only 14th days that "celebrates" single people. The single people who haven't received any gifts thus far from their significant others are supposed to go console themselves by eating Ja Jang Myun- Black Noodles- and other black dishes (kinda like a day of mourning).

We are not single, but we decided to celebrate in honor of the people who are. Not really...we just wanted some Ja Jang Myun. The noodles are homemade and oh-so-tasty!

The platter of stuff in the middle is Banchan- side dishes that are always given with Korean meals. Well, not just Korean meals for that matter- it's any food that is served in Korea. Fried chicken, pizza...doesn't matter. You can always count on some white radishes or pickles or kimchi. This time we got raw onions, black sauce to dip them in, yellow radishes, and kimchi. All of which I like, but I don't Akila or Taylor even touched them.
We invited our friend Akila over, who is single, and we all enjoyed Ja Jang Myun as we watched Season 3 of 24.
