The Great Wall of China

I am so thankful and grateful tonight for our Father who looks out for us. We went to see the Great Wall of China today and had a great time.

One of the pictures we got of us together was taken by a nice couple that we approached and asked for a picture. We then had a short conversation with them. The girl was so excited to talk with me because it was her first time speaking English with a native English speaker. I've had this happen with someone in Korea before too. I can't imagine that feeling to be able to practice speaking the language you've been learning for so long with a native speaker. She then asked for a picture with me. We chatted for a few more minutes and left. Halfway down the wall as we were attempting to exit, we passed them and said hello once again.

We got to the Wall by train, but the next train leaving was at 7:40 PM and we were ready to go by 4:30. We decided to take the 2 hour bus back into town. Guess who showed up in line behind us? The couple we met on the wall. We honestly do not believe that this was chance...You see, God really does care about the little things in our lives- even a tourist day at one of the 7 wonders of the world. If we had not run into this couple again, I don't know how we would have made it back. Nothing along the way was in English. We would not have known what stop to get off on or what to do if we did get lost. We ended up transferring to 2 different buses on the journey and this couple went with us all the way to the subway station that we needed to get to. As they were walking us to the subway station, we passed a street vendor that was selling sticks of fruit dipped in melted sugar. It was one of Taylor's favorite treats when he was in China. They bought the sticks for us and dropped us off at the station. We definitely would have gotten lost without them. God cares for His children, and we are so grateful.

Oh yeah, while at the wall I had to take this picture of an adorable little girl squatting at the top of the wall. Everyone in China seems to have perfected the squat. It's a great skill to have when you don't have a chair and don't want to sit on the dirty ground. More pictures to come of people squatting. In addition to being an alternative sitting position, most of the toilets in China are "squatty pottys"- not toilets at all. We had the opportunity to use them for 10 days in China!
