We need prayer concerning the next step in our lives and how long we should stay in Korea. Originally, the plan was to stay in Korea until August of 2012. Lately, some other things have come into the picture that we are really considering. So, we could use a lot of prayer as to what comes next.
I wouldn't say that our life in Korea has been the greatest. At the same time, we didn't come here with many expectations of what life would be like, so I don't think we have been too let down. Overall, it has been a really good learning experience. We're learning more about ourselves individually, more about our marriage and relationship with each other, and we are discovering more about what we would like to do in the future.
We wish we could be in better contact with friends and family back home, but with the time difference between here and the States, and being so busy and wrapped up in school work, we don't have very much extra time. Both of us have worked harder than we've ever worked in our lives.
Koreans are very hard-working people. They work a lot of hours. A friend of ours here recently read an article online that said Koreans are the hardest-working society, but least productive. We can totally relate and confirm that in our workplace. We are required to attend so many pointless meetings (We have a 3-4 hour meeting coming up on Friday)! I don't just say pointless because they are done in Korean and we don't understand. I'm talking pointless like "we just sent you an email about this, now let's have a meeting." Between teaching classes, tutoring, grading, and lesson planning, we easily put in 50-60 hours a week.
I started writing this post about a week ago. We were originally re-considering staying in Korea for 2 years just because of what we are trying to accomplish in the next few years of our life. But since I started writing this a week ago, the school has begun to dump more and more ridiculous things on us that we don't agree with. We're not trying to just run out of here when things get tough, but they are doing some things that we believe to be unethical and just not proper ways to treat people. We've had to deal with a whole lot coming from this school in the last 8 months, and each day, it just seems to get more and more ridiculous.
So, as I said, we could use prayer. We are considering finishing here in December of 2011, rather than July of 2012. We want to do the right thing, and we've definitely got a lot to consider.
